From Stirling, with Love.

It is with absolute joy and overflowing hearts that we welcome Paisley into our family. From the very beginning, their story has been a testament to timing, patience, and a love that’s worth the wait. They dated before Sam left on his mission, parted ways while he was gone, and then—like a storybook reunion—picked right back up when he returned. Some things are just meant to be.

Sam worked hard to find the perfect ring, navigating the realities of adulting and the eye-opening costs of “grown-up things,” all while keeping his focus on one goal: making Paisley feel cherished. And when the day came, he orchestrated a proposal that was equal parts thoughtful, intimate, and perfectly them.

He asked me to head to a special spot in Stirling—one of the places that holds meaning for them—and I set the scene: a little picnic with sparkling cider, a fire, and a gift Sam had thoughtfully chosen for Paisley. Then I hid, peeking out just enough to watch magic unfold.

As they arrived, I couldn’t help but feel joy, admiration, and a little bit of awe. Watching Sam propose and Paisley say “yes” was a moment of pure, heart-stopping love. They are each other’s person—that undeniable kind of connection you just know is meant to last.

Seeing them together fills me with confidence that their life ahead will be beautiful, because both of them strive to be kind, thoughtful, and steadfast. Their love is the real deal, and we couldn’t be happier to witness it and celebrate it. Sam and Paisley, here’s to a lifetime of joy, laughter, and love as bright as that day in Stirling. 🥂💖

March - Mischief & Mini Golf

 

March brought a little bit of everything… which is exactly how we like it. Just when we thought winter might be loosening its grip, we were gifted a glorious snow day. There is something universally joyful about an unexpected pause in the schedule—especially when it comes with the built-in permission to stay cozy, drink something warm, and pretend responsibilities don’t exist for a few extra hours.

We were lucky enough to have Sam and Paisley home a few times this month, which meant the calendar immediately filled with our favourite kind of plans: eating together. One highlight was a trip to the ever-classic Burger Baron, where the burgers are reliably delicious and the conversation somehow always lasts longer than the meal itself. There’s just something about sitting around a table that makes time slow down in the best possible way.

Sam also checked off a memorable life experience this month… though perhaps not one he would choose to repeat. He underwent a gum graft, a procedure that involves grafting donor tissue (yes, from a cadaver… WILD) to strengthen the base of the gums. It sounded equal parts fascinating and horrifying, and while recovery wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, he handled it like a champ. Modern medicine truly is amazing… and slightly unsettling.

Meanwhile, Nate continues to keep us laughing on a near-daily basis. He is the perfect blend of confident, athletic, and unintentionally hilarious. One of March’s more creative moments came when Jessica and Nate teamed up during one of her visits home to build an indoor mini golf course. Nothing says family bonding quite like navigating living room obstacles with a putter while someone insists their shot definitely counts.

We were also thrilled to welcome Abby back to southern Alberta for a very special reason—three of her art pieces were featured in a Christian Easter art exhibit. Watching Abby experience the joy of sharing her creativity was such a proud moment. There is something deeply meaningful about seeing someone use their gifts in a way that brings both personal fulfillment and beauty to others. Her passion for art is inspiring, and it was a gift to witness that spark in action.

All in all, March gave us laughter, creativity, meaningful moments, and at least one dinner conversation that included more detail about gum tissue than anyone expected.

Spring is officially on the horizon… and we are ready. 🌷

From Rookie to OOK: Jessica’s Incredible First Year

Jessica’s first year as an OOK at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology has been nothing short of inspiring. From the first whistle of the season, she embraced the challenge of collegiate basketball with enthusiasm, grit, and that unmistakable Jess spark that makes people want to be better just by being around her.

She saw plenty of court time early in the season, stepping confidently into her role and proving she belonged at this level. As the season progressed and senior players returned from injury, her minutes shifted—but her impact never did. Jessica continued to be a bright force and a steady source of encouragement, showing that great teammates don’t just play hard… they lift everyone around them. Strength, positivity, and heart? She brought all three in abundance.

And what a season it was! The OOKS were dominant, losing only two games all year—a remarkable accomplishment that reflects both talent and incredible team chemistry. Their hard work paid off in a big way when March brought an unforgettable opportunity: a trip to Montreal for NATIONALS!!!! ✈️🏀

While the team narrowly missed advancing to the bronze medal game, the experience itself was a huge win. Competing on the national stage, growing together, and representing their school so well is something to be incredibly proud of.  And... to top it all off, Jess was awarded "Rookie of the Year" at NAIT'S year end banquet. 

And can I just say—watching Jess cheer for her team was one of the happiest things I have ever seen. Her joy was absolutely contagious. Whether on the court or on the sidelines, she celebrated every play, every teammate, and every moment. That kind of wholehearted love for the game and for her people is something truly special.

Jessica, your first year as an OOK has been filled with growth, determination, and so much joy. We couldn’t be prouder of the player—and teammate—you are becoming. The future is bright, and we’ll be cheering every step of the way. 🏀💙

February: Love, Layups & a Little Light Vandalism

What would a February update be without at least a snippet of basketball? Don’t worry—our season tickets to the Bleachers & Beyond Tour are still very much in use.

Nate continues to do well on the court, giving us plenty of reasons to clap enthusiastically while pretending we totally understand the finer points of zone defence. Meanwhile, Jessica and the “OOKS” are absolutely dominating. It’s looking more and more like Nationals might be in their future this year… and let’s just say we are cautiously optimistic (read: already mentally planning celebratory snacks). Fingers crossed!

February also brought a very special family highlight: my niece Ella got married! We packed up with Sam and Paisley and made the drive to Calgary for a weekend that perfectly blended chaos, laughter, and the unmistakable sound of competitive Super Mario commentary. We rented a VRBO with Jewel and her girls, squeezed in plenty of visiting, and spent Valentine’s Day in the best possible way—watching Ella and Mason say “I do.” It was a joyful, love-filled weekend, with just the right amount of togetherness (and Mario Kart rivalries).

In other milestone news, Sam bought his very first car. I was genuinely impressed by how thoughtful and intentional he was through the whole process. Naturally, I had to join him on his maiden voyage to Lethbridge, where he just happened to need to pop in and wish Paisley a good day. And by “wish her a good day,” I mean lovingly decorate her vehicle with toilet paper. Ah yes… young love in its purest form.

As if that wasn’t enough Jessica excitement for one month, we were absolutely thrilled when she made a surprise visit! In what can only be described as a slightly reckless but completely worth it late-night trip, she arrived for three precious days of laughs, snacks, and quality time. Radar got his cuddles in, and the rest of us squeezed in a few cherished game nights that reminded us just how much fun it is when everyone is under one roof.

February reminded us that life is best enjoyed with a mix of big moments, small traditions, and the occasional questionable decision involving paper products and parked cars.

March, we’re ready for you… but we might need to rest our cheering voices first. 🏀

January - Buzzer Beaters and Bridal Shower

January came in hot… and by hot, I mean squeaking sneakers and echoing gym whistles.

This month belonged almost entirely to basketball. We cheered on Jessica from afar—refreshing score updates like it was our full-time job—and proudly watched Nate in person, perfecting our very professional sideline stance (arms crossed, nodding knowingly, whispering things like “great hustle!” and “Box out!”). January may not have given us much daylight, but it certainly gave us plenty of court time. 

Somewhere between tip-offs and timeouts, we managed a quick getaway to Claresholm to host a bridal shower for my niece, Ella Rausch. And honestly, what a lovely change of pace to swap gym shoes for charcuterie boards. It was such a joy to celebrate Ella and shower her with love, laughter, and just the right number of wedding-themed games (because one must never go too far).

All in all, January was a full-court press of family, fun, and fast breaks. We may not have improved our vertical jump, but our cheering stamina is definitely in mid-season form.

Onward to February… where we will likely continue to ask, “What time is the game?” 🏀
